Part III: Let Your Cleaners Sit

One of the biggest mistakes people make while cleaning is trying to wipe everything immediately.

They spray a surface and begin scrubbing right away, working harder than they need to.

Professional cleaners learn very quickly that cleaning products are designed to do part of the work for you.

You simply have to give them a moment.

When I cleaned homes professionally, I rarely sprayed a surface and wiped it right away. Instead, I would spray first and move on to another task for a few minutes.

By the time I returned, the cleaner had already begun breaking down the grime.

For example, when cleaning a bathroom I would start by spraying the sink, the faucet, and the inside of the tub.

Then I would turn to the mirror above the sink and clean the glass.

By the time the mirror was finished, the cleaner on the sink had already loosened the toothpaste, soap residue, and water spots.

Instead of scrubbing stubborn buildup, the surface usually wiped clean with very little effort.

The same principle works in kitchens.

Spray the stovetop or counters, then wipe down the cabinet fronts or appliances while the cleaner sits. When you return to the surface you sprayed first, most of the work has already been done.

Cleaning this way saves both time and energy.

Instead of exhausting yourself trying to remove grime immediately, you allow the cleaner a few moments to soften the buildup.

Professional cleaners rely on this simple habit constantly.

Spray first.
Work somewhere else.
Come back and wipe.

Once you begin doing this, you will notice how much easier cleaning becomes.

Many of the small tricks that experienced cleaners use are not complicated at all. They simply make the work flow in a smarter way.

And often, the difference between exhausting cleaning and efficient cleaning is nothing more than patience.
